Chloe: Hi Luke! How did you get into American Football? Luke: I had watched the Superbowl a few times then started going to the annual NFL games which are held at Wembley. When I came to University I saw that there was a Football team and thought "why not?" Chloe: How long have you been playing? Luke: I started playing for DMU Falcons at Uni. I played 3 seasons for them then during the off season at the ‘Senior Ball’ I play for the Leicester Falcons. I couldn’t play the first year due to an injury I had sustained, but now I have played for them the last two years! Chloe: Which American team do you support, and which player do you most admire? Luke: I Support the Kansas City Chiefs and admire Tight End Travis Kelce, I also enjoy watching Defensive Lineman JJ Watt. Chloe: What position do you play? Luke: I play two positions, Right Tackle and Defensive End which are both Lineman positions and are on either side of the ball. Chloe: How often do you train? Luke: I used to train 3 times a week when I was at university but now, due work commitments, I only train at the weekends with the Leicester Falcons. I am really looking forward to the off-season and gaining some well needed strength ready for the premiership next year! Chloe: What’s been the biggest challenge you’ve faced on the pitch? Luke: Challenge wise, I would say a uni match I played against Leicester university at a Varsity game. Being a far more important asset to the team I used to play every rep of the game on both Offence and Defence (Which takes its toll) But knowing that I had to give my all every rep to help our team was a lot of pressure, but ultimately makes it all worth it. Chloe: What has playing American Football taught you? Luke: It has taught me that anything is possible and team morale is unteachable. Some people can be talented but if a team is unified and passionate about the game and towards one another, then nothing can beat it – which has shown with us winning the League and gaining promotion and being 12-0 for the season.
