Milkshakes first started popping up around the country in 1885, however, they were totally different to the rich, creamy indulgent treats that we know them as today. Originally introduced as a health drink, you could only purchase a milkshake for medicinal purposes behind the counter of your local drugstore. Described as a “sturdy, healthful eggnog type of drink” it consisted of eggs, spices and whiskey and was prescribed to anyone showing symptoms of a common cold. It wasn’t until the 1900’s and the invention of the electric mixer that milkshake became the classic American desert we know them as today, and began to frequent diners, where they added in ice cream and candy to thicken up and create an indulgent pudding.
EverythingBrandedUSA are celebrating National Chocolate Milkshake Day and this classic, all-American dessert by getting crafty in the kitchen and creating our own! Rob Mobsby our Digital Marketing Manager very selflessly (it’s a tough job) offered to be the judge of our Marketing Departments' milkshake competition. With four members of the team volunteering to show off their milkshake skills, the stakes were set high and the competition fierce.
To celebrate National Chocolate Milkshake Day, treat yourself to a delicious milkshake for dessert tonight! It doesn't take much effort to make one at home. To make your own, combine 2 cups of chocolate ice cream, 2 bars of dark chocolate candy (diced), and 1/2 cup whipped cream in a blender. Garnish with more cream and chocolate shavings. Enjoy!
